The family of Bridie Goldstein has established a memorial fund to commemorate her legacy.

Goldstein, 57, a nursing supervisor at St. Mary's Children and Family Services in Syosset, was killed Sunday when a driver lost control of his car and struck her as she was jogging.

Goldstein's given name was Bridget, but she was called Bridie by everyone. She was remembered among friends, family and colleagues for her youthful spirit and energy, as well as her seemingly limitless generosity.

In lieu of flowers, her family is asking for donations to the Bridget Goldstein Memorial Fund at St. Mary's Children and Family Services. The fund will offer a scholarship to a child with special needs every year at St. Mary's graduation.

The Massapequa nurse had a fearless approach to life and somehow always managed to have fun, family members said.

Goldstein raised three sons - Bob, of Chapel Hill, N.C., Peter and Jeff, both of Massapequa. She had been divorced from her husband, Wesley Goldstein, for about 10 years.

Other survivors include her mother, Mary Gallagher, of Ballyhaunis, Ireland; four sisters, Margaret Walsh of North Massapequa, Teresa Keegan, Rosemarie Gallagher and Pauline Fahy, all of Dublin; two brothers, Peter and Martin Gallagher of Ballyhaunis; and two grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be 9:45 a.m. today at Maria Regina Church in Seaford.
